Helping your pets find a loving home
Hello & welcome. My name is Daniela & here's a brief introduction as to why I created Right Pets. I’ve always had dogs & recently I had to say goodbye to my 17 year old Lhasa Apso, Miley. I really missed her company and whilst enjoying a little ‘freedom’ for some months, I realised the need to have another dog in my life was more important. So, I started on a search for a new companion, during which I contacted two rescue shelters.
My experiences with these shelters were quite different and eye-opening. The first shelter, while eager to help, perhaps lacked the resources to provide a detailed adoption process. There were no adoption forms or home visits, which made me realize how essential these steps are in matching the right pets with the right homes. They were doing their best under stretched circumstances, but it highlighted a need for additional support. I had a strong a feeling that maybe I could find a way that could help busy shelters connect with people searching for a pet.
The idea grew
The second shelter was amazing, I didn’t even go to see any dogs there, but I had to fill out an adoption form, I was given a home visit and within two weeks I was contacted and told they had a dog that might suit me and was I interested? – of course I was!
When they sent me a photo of Teddy, a 2-year-old Maltese, I just knew I had to meet him. He was in foster care and after several visits I brought him home! I feel so lucky to have this cute, crazy, smart, little dog, taking me back out to all the lovely places & walks I adore. And it feels great giving Teddy a lovely home, with all the things he needs & deserves.
Right Pets was born
That second experience really sealed the deal on what I was going to do. I decided to create ‘Right Pets’, a central hub that makes it easy for people to find rescue shelters, all in one place and for busy shelters to promote the animals in their care, in a way that takes out a lot of the effort for them. Many shelters cannot afford to have their own website and by providing them a platform, that will help them with their day-to-day admin. Additionally, standardising the adoption application process, so that any potential adopter has provided the same information, makes the logistics of matching pet with adopter easy too.
I’m delighted to say we have reached the first milestone on the site with Shelter membership now available and the ability to add pets. Within the next few weeks, as soon as we have our first shelters live, we will be opening the site to the public to allow potential adopters to browse the pets and make applications.
